Transgender people get skills dev training in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, April 6, 2020 (BSS) – Transgender people have got skill
development training in Rajshahi for improving their living and livelihood
condition through income generation activities.

The Department of Social Service (DSS) organized a 50-day long training
for them in two trades like tailoring and beautification in two separate
venues in the city.

Upon successful completion of the training, the department hosted a
closing and allowance-giving ceremony at the conference hall of the Deputy
Commissioner’s office here yesterday afternoon. On the occasion, each of the
50 participants was given Taka 10,000 as training allowance.

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Hamidul Haque addressed the session as
chief guest with Hasina Momtaz, deputy director of DSS, in the chair.
Additional Deputy Commissioners Shariful Haque and Nazrul Islam and Social
Service Officer (Registration) Dr Hamidul Islam also spoke.

The discussants stressed the need for ensuring fundamental rights,
especially the health, social and legal rights of the transgender people for
uplifting their living and livelihood condition.

The society, as a whole, should come forward with a positive attitude
toward the extremely socially excluded people for their coexistence in
society with decent livelihood. Chief Guest Hamidul Haque said the present
government is very much positive towards solving the problems of the hijra
community.

The present government has given recognition to the transgender
population as third gender community side by side with ensuring the voting
rights to them. With this breakthrough, the population can avail all the
public sector legal privileges together with exercising their rights of
franchise.

He urged people to change their attitude towards the transgender people
and said general people have a very narrow mindset regarding genderless
people and they should change their mentality. The training will help the
extremely excluded population.
