Efforts intensify to maintain social distancing in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 02, 2020 (BSS) – The armed forces and law enforcement agencies enhanced efforts today to assist the civil administrations in ensuring social distancing to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Rangpur division.

Officials said the members of the armed forces, RAB-13, police, local government bodies and voluntary organisations have exclusively reinforced efforts today to ensure social distancing by restricting movement of people and inspiring them to stay home.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said maximum emphasis has been put on ensuring social distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 and providing food to the needy, distressed and jobless people.

“The COVID-19 situation is remaining stable and under control in Rangpur division where the armed forces, district, health, police and upazila administrations, local government bodies and other organisations are working sincerely,” he said.

Meanwhile, 234 people, including 21 migrants and 213 villagers have been home-quarantined during the last 24 hours in the division where 31 people were home-quarantined yesterday.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said massive efforts of the health administrations and other organisations are on to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in Rangpur division.

“In the last 24 hours, four people of Rangpur, one of Panchagarh, two of Kurigram, 12 of Thakurgaon, 213 of Dinajpur and two of Gaibandha districts have been home-quarantined,” he said.

“So far, 3,367 people were put on home quarantine to prevent community transmission of COVID-19,” he said, adding that 2,239 of them were released and 1,128 others are remaining in quarantine in Rangpur division.

The armed forces, police and different organisations are continuing distribution of masks, leaflets, spraying of disinfectants on the streets and public places, washing hands with shops and cleanliness campaigns to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, a team of high officials led by Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam visited health service facilities and equipments at Rangpur Prime Medical College Hospital and Doctors Community Hospital in the city on Wednesday afternoon.

The team included Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Additional Divisional Commissioners Md. Zakir Hossain and Abu Taher Md Masud Rana, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan, Director of Rangpur Medical College Hospital Dr. Faridul Islam, Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Laizu and Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan.

The visiting officials exchanged views with the hospital authorities concerned and assessed the possibilities of using those hospitals for providing treatments to COVID-19 patients, if necessary.

Narrating the enhanced efforts of all concerned in ensuring social distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said the COVID-19 situation is remaining stable in the division.
