Jobless people get food in Khulna

KHULNA, April 2, 2020 (BSS) – The government has started distributing
food among the needy people who have been rendered jobless due to the
coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Khulna.

Official sources said the district administration through upazila and
local government bodies are distributing the foods allocated in two phases by
the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief recently.

Talking to BSS today, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) of
Khulna Md. Azizul Haque Zoarder said the government recently allocated 400
metric tonnes of rice and Taka 10 lakh for the purpose.

“Besides, we have some buffer stocks of rice for distribution among the
people who have become jobless due to the coronavirus situation in the
district,” he said.

“We have already allocated 397 tonnes of rice in favour of all nine
upazila administrations for distribution of 10 kg of rice among 45,000
jobless families each with the assistance of the local union parishad
chairmen and members,” he said.

At the same time, 93 metric tonnes of rice has been allocated in favour of
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) for distributing among 9,000 jobless families –
250 families in each of the all 32 wards with 10 kg of rice for each family.

“The upazila administrations in association with the local government
bodies are working to complete distribution of the allocated rice among the
targeted families with 10 kg for each,” he added.
