351 more people released from quarantine in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, April 1, 2020 (BSS) – 351 more people were released from home-
quarantine after they were found no symptoms of coronavirus completing their
14-day stay at home as quarantine period in all eight districts under
Rajshahi division in the past 24 hours till 8am today.

With this, the number of total released people from home-quarantine stood
at 4,024 as 3,006 others remained in home quarantine including 22 in
institutional ones in the division at present.

Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya said a total of
7,030 people have, so far, been put under home quarantine since March 10 last
to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Meanwhile, a total of 62 new persons have been kept under home quarantine
and 351 other patients were released in the division in the last 24 hours
till this morning.

Among the new ones, 40 have been home-quarantined in Rajshahi, two in
Naogaon, nine in Joypurhat, eight in Bogura, two in Sirajganj and one in
Pabna districts.

Dr Gopen Acharya said currently a total of 15 patients are undergoing
treatment in isolation units in the division.

He added that an integrated measure has been adopted to bring all the
overseas returnees and other suspects under home quarantine to curb the virus
spread.

He also said comprehensive efforts are continuing to ensure following the
health related guidelines like staying at home, social distancing and washing
hands with soap.

The law-enforcing agencies have also intensified their activities to
enforce the health related directives everywhere in the division aimed at
halting the virus outbreak.

All the district administrations and local government institutions
including the Rajshahi City Corporation have adopted diversified measures,
including creating awareness among the public in general through distributing
leaflets and using loudspeakers.

Masks and sanitizers are being distributed among the health, and
conservancy workers and the public in general. Various government, non-
government and voluntary organizations are distributing foodstuffs and cash
money among the daily wage-earners.

Rajshahi divisional commissioner Humayun Kabir Khandaker said 921 tonnes of
rice were already distributed among the daily wage earners as a part of the
government’s instant humanitarian support to mitigate the economic hardship
caused by coronavirus pandemic.

There is 2,400 tonnes more rice and Taka 81 lakh cash in hand for
distribution at present, he added.

“We have also 1600 beds ready and 5,000 personal protective equipments to
face any emergency situation,” the commissioner added.
