Food aid distribution intensified among daily wage earners in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, MAR 31, 2020 (BSS) – Food aid distribution among the daily wage
earners has been intensified in the district to lessen their sufferings due
to a 10-day shutdown of the government to stop coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 15,000 families of daily wage earners like day laborers and
rickshaw pullers, and beggars of the district, would get 150 metric tons of
rice and TK 7.45 lakh received from the Ministry of Disaster Management and
Relief of the government at this critical time, said a press release signed
by assistant commissionr M. Shahin Delwar.

Of the total, 2500 families of daily wage earner have been selected from
Sundarganj upazila, 1800 from Sadar upazila, 2100 from Sadullapur upazila,
1000 from Palashbari upazila, 2000 from Gobindaganj upazila and Fuchhari
upazila each, 1700 from Shaghata upazila, 600 from Gaibandha Municipality,
500 from Gobindaganj Municipality, and 400 from Sundarganj Municipality and
Palashbari Municipality each, the press release said.

Till Sunday, 7300 beneficiary families of the district already received 73
metric tons of rice with other food items such as potato and pulse to pass
their days during the coronavirus situation without food crisis, said an
official.

Deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin said other activities like operating
mobile courts to check the price hike, sending food materials to the home
quarantined persons and motivating the common people for maintaining social
distancing and precautionary measures to prevent coronavirus outbreak by the
district and upazila administrations are going on in full swing.

The members of Bangladesh army deployed in the district are patrolling
round the clock and also assisting the local administrations to conduct the
publicity activity aimed at fighting against the coronavirus, the DC
concluded.
