Train engine hits auto-rickshaw killing 4 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 30, 2020 (BSS) – Four passengers of an auto-rickshaw,
including its driver, were killed and two others injured today as a train
engine hit the three-wheelers at Annnodanagar rail crossing point in
Pirgachha upazila of the district.

“The accident occurred when the Bonarpara bound train engine from
Parbatipur hit the auto-rickshaw there around 1 pm killing two persons on the
spot and injuring four others,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirgachha Thana
Rezaul Karim told BSS at 5:10 pm.

Being informed, Pirgachha Thana police rushed to the spot, recovered two
bodies and sent four injured persons to Rangpur Medical College Hospital
(RMCH).

Later, two of the injured persons succumbed at the RMCH.

“The deceased are: auto-rickshaw driver Hamidul Islam Dukhu, 34, of
Sukhanpukur area in Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur, Nurunnahar Begum, 25, and
Sumi Akhter, 21, of Lalmonirhat district and Mostafizar Rahman, 40,” the OC
said.

Address of Mostafizar Rahman could not be known immediately.

After completing formalities, dead bodies of Hamidul Islam Dukhu and
Nurunnahar Begum were handed over to their relatives while bodies of Sumi
Akhter and Mostafizar Rahman were kept at the RMCH.

“The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Lalmonirhat GRP Thana will take
next necessary legal action in this connection,” the OC added.
