Lab to be set up in Sylhet soon to test coronavirus
SYLHET, March 30, 2020 (BSS) – A specialised laboratory will be set up at Sylhet Osmani Medical College soon to test the blood samples of suspected COVID-19 patients.
“The necessary equipment to set up a specialised lab has already reached Sylhet. This laboratory will be set up at the Microbiology and Virology Department of the medical college,” deputy director of the college Dr Himangshu Lal Roy told BSS today.
He said the college authorities received all necessary equipment, including a TPCR machine, today and the machine installation work has already begun.
Roy said an expert team of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) will arrive in Sylhet tomorrow (Tuesday) to impart necessary training to the people who will operate the machine.
Adequate safety measures will be ensured for those who will work in the laboratory, he said, adding that the lab is expected to be operational from the early of the next week.
