Quader urges people not to pay heed to rumours over COVID-19

DHAKA, March 29, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today urged the people not to pay heed to any rumour centring the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

He made the call while speaking at a press conference at the AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said it could be learnt from the past that the country’s people always tackled all kinds of disasters by keeping their patience and playing responsible roles.

“On behalf of Awami League, I call upon the affluent people to stand by the poor and the destitute, from their respective positions, on this day of human tragedy,” he said.

He said Awami League always consider the emotion of the country’s people in politics.

The AL general secretary said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is giving instructions round-the-clock to the authorities concerned in tacking the coronavirus crisis and has already taken short- and long-term plans in this regard.

He assured that the prime minister and AL leaders and activists will remain beside the country’s people and the government will continue its programmes until the crisis ends.

“Remaining alert against coronavirus, we all have to follow the health guidelines to prevent the deadly virus,” Quader said.

Coronavirus puts the whole world in crisis while all kinds of activities are paralysed, he said, adding that Awami League is conducting coronavirus prevention programmes and awareness campaigns across the country to address the ongoing crisis.

The road transport and bridges minister said the AL leaders and activists have stood by the commoners and the poor people by distributing virus preventive materials among them.

AL presidium member Begum Matia Chowdhury, its relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi and office secretary Dilip Barua were present at the press conference.
