Coordinated efforts to curb coronavirus spread stressed

RAJSHAHI, March 26, 2020 (BSS) – Speakers at a participatory discussion
here unequivocally called for coordinated efforts of all concerned to curb
the coronavirus (COVID-19) spread.

There is no way but to work in coordinated way to stem further outbreak of
the virus as it is a global pandemic, they said.

Utmost emphasis should be given on following the health related guidelines
including stay at home and social distancing, they added.

They speakers came up with the observation while addressing a coordination
meeting of three committees — Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), Divisional
Administration and District Administration — to contain the coronavirus
spraed held at conference hall of Divisional Commissioner’s office here
yesterday afternoon.

Chaired by Divisional Commissioner Humayun Kabir Khandaker, the meeting
was addressed, among others, by RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Fazely
Hossain Badsha, MP, and Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque as focal persons.

Deputy Inspector General of Police AKM Hafiz Akter, Commissioner of
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Humayun Kabir, Divisional Director of Department
of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya, Director of Rajshahi Medical College
Hospital (RMCH) Brig Gen Jamilur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haque and
Principal of Rajshahi Medical College Prof Dr Nawshad Ali were present at the
meeting.

Mayor Liton told the meeting that the RCC has launched a special drive to
keep the city disinfected by spraying bleaching powder mixed liquid, seeking
all-out cooperation of all the authorities concerned to curb the spread of
coronavirus.

He also said the Disinfectant Spraying Drive on the city streets will
continue using three water-tanks, one Jed and a police water-tank.

He also said that the city corporation has adopted diversified measures,
including creating awareness among the public in general through distributing
leaflets and using loudspeakers.

Masks and sanitizers are being manufactured for health, conservancy workers
and the city dwellers, he said, adding, 490 personal protective equipment
(PPE) including 370 for RMCH reached here yesterday to protect the doctors
and nurses from infection.

Mentioning that booths for using hand sanitizers by the roaming people were
set up on 26 spots across the city, Liton said steps have also been taken to
strengthen the RMCH and other hospitals for treatment of the infected
patients.
