DHAKA, Mar 23, 2020 (BSS) – COVID 19 testing lab will be set up in some
important hospitals across the country within the next few days, said Health
and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque.

“Already we have such testing labs . . . we will set up some more labs in
some important hospitals including, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University. COVID-19 test is
continuing and we have so far conducted 250 such tests,” said Zahid Maleque
while briefing journalists at his secretariat office here today.

He said steps have been taken to carry out test by using two types of
testing kits at different labs

and the government has enough COVID 19 testing kits and orders have
already been placed for 50,000 more kits, which will reach the country soon.

Steps have already been taken to carry out 50,000 Polymer Chain Reaction
(PCR), he added.

“We already have 100,000 kits … there is nothing to be panic,” he said.

The health minister said self-quarantine or institutional quarantine is
important for preventing the spread of COVID 19. The government has already
taken various measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, he said, adding
that DCs, SPs, union chairmen and members are working across the country in
this regard.

“We had preparation and that is why we managed to quarantine 20,000
people,” he said.

He also urged the returnees from abroad to go to self-quarantine and
inform the authorities concerned about it.

“Do not cause harm to the people of the country,” he urged the returnees
from abroad.
