Daycare centers, female hostels asked to avoid visitors

DHAKA, March 22, 2020 (BSS) – The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has decided to operate its child daycare centres and working women’s hostels with utmost care and avoiding visitors amid coronavirus scare.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the ministry considering the safety and security of working women, their children and daycare centres, said a press release.

The meeting was held at the Women and Children Affairs Ministry with its state minister Fazilatun Nessa Indira in the chair.

The ministry instructed all concerned to avoid public gatherings and visitors at the daycare centres and working women’s hostels to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid 19).

The release said the meeting also suspended all training programmes under the ministry and all cultural events under Bangladesh Shishu Academy including those at field level until March 31.

Secretary of the ministry Kazi Rowshan Akhter, Director General of Department of Women Affairs Parveen Akhter, Executive Director of Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha Kajal Islam and Director General of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Jyoti Lal Kuri were present at the meeting.

The ministry’s visitors to the child daycare centres and working women’s hostels are being discouraged to avoid the threat of the coronavirus.

All meetings of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs have been suspended till March 31 and the Joyeeta Food Court, run by the Joyeeta Foundation, has been temporarily closed.

The meeting also emphasised handwashing at regular intervals during working hours, the release added.
