84 returnees kept in home quarantine in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, MAR 19, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 84 persons who returned from different countries have been kept in home quarantine in seven upazilas of the district till March 18 to prevent further spread of coronavirus.

This was disclosed by civil surgeon (CS) Dr. ABM Abu Hanif in a district committee meeting to prevent and control coronavirus held at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) here on Thursday.

DC Abdul Matin presided over the meeting.

CS Dr. Hanif said of the total, 11 returnees have been placed at home
quarantine in Sadar upazila, 17 in Sundarganj upazila and Fulchhari upazila
each, 07 in Sadullapur upazila, 11 in Gobindaganj upazila, 19 in Shaghata
upazila and 2 in Palashbari upazila.

“The expatriates have recently returned from China, Italy, Malaysia and
other Middle East countries and they have been asked to remain their
respective homes quarantine, ” the CS also said.

Besides, precautionary measures have been taken at the district and
upazila level hospitals including ansar and VDP surveillance with necessary
equipment including adequate physicians, nurses and beds to face any
situation due to coronavirus, the DC added.

Discouraging the people to attend all kinds of public gatherings, meetings
and rallies CS Dr. Hanif urged all to avoid public transport and try to
maintain one-meter distance from one person to another.

DC Abdul Matin urged all to inform the upazila administration and health
officials about the arrival of the overseas returnees without delay to keep
them in quarantine to check the coronavirus outbreak.

Lawful actions would be taken against the overseas returnees if they moved
openly without staying in quarantine for 14 days, the DC warned.

Superintendent of Police Muhammad Towhidul Islam, zila parishad chairman
Ataur Rahman Sarker, Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud
Zahangir Kabir Milon and other members of the committee participated in the
meeting.

Talking to the BSS, CS Dr. ABM Abu Hanif said no coronavirus infected
patients were detected in the district as of yesterday.
