Kolkata mission celebrates Bangabandhu’s birthday and Nat’l Children’s Day

KOLKATA, March 18, 2020 (BSS) – Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in
Kolkata celebrated the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children Day-2020 on Tuesday in a
befitting manner.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Toufique Hasan inaugurated the day’s
programme by hoisting the national flag in the morning on the deputy high
commission premises.

Messages delivered by President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were
read out on the occasion.

The programmes included- placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Father
of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Kolkata Baker Hostel and
offering special munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of
Bangabandhu.

As part of the programme, a mural of Bangabandhu was inaugurated on the
deputy high commission premises. Besides, a documentary on the life and works
of Bangabandhu was also screened there.

Following the inauguration programme, a discussion was held highlighting
the significance of the day.

West Bengal Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Subrata Mukherjee,
West Bengal Power Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay and eminent author
Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay addressed the discussion with Bangladesh Deputy High
Commissioner in Kolkata Toufique Hasan in the chair.

A number of expatriate Bangladeshis, deputy high commission officials and
their family members attended the programme.

Besides, on Tuesday morning, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birth
centenary by placing a wreath on his portrait at the Vidhan Sabha.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Biman Banerjee and other lawmakers were present on the
occasion.
