Mujib Year celebrations begin in BD missions abroad

DHAKA, March 18, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh missions aboard started
celebrations of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in befitting manner yesterday.

Bangladesh missions across the globe have taken elaborate programmes to
celebrate the birthday of the architect of independent Bangladesh and the
greatest Bengali of all times, who was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj on
March 17, 1920, according to messages received here today.

The day’s programmes included hoisting the national flag, reading out
messages of the President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the
State Minister for Foreign Affairs, placing wreaths at portraits of
Bangabandhu, exhibition and discussions on Bangabandhu’s life and works,
cutting cake and special prayers.

Expatriates, including political leaders and activists, media
representatives and eminent citizens, attended those programmes.

On the occasion, Bangladesh embassy in Washington DC organised different
programmes.

Ambassador of Bangladesh in Washington DC Mohammad Ziauddin inaugurated the
programme hoisting the national flag. Messages of President and Prime
Minister were also read out and wreaths were placed at the portrait of
Bangabandhu.

Bangladesh Consulate General in New-York also celebrated Mujib Year in a
limited extent considering the emergency situation due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa inaugurated the celebration by cutting a
cake. Special prayers were held for the eternal peace of Bangabandhu, his
family and the martyrs of the Liberation War.

Similar programmes were also organised in Bangladesh High Commission in
Ottawa, Islamabad and Bangladesh Embassy in The Hague also celebrated the
birth centenary of the greatest Bengali of all time Bangabandhu.
