Dhaka looks animated on Mujib Year celebration

DHAKA, March 16, 2020 (BSS) – The capital Dhaka wore a festive and animated look just before the inaugural function of Mujib Year to be held here tomorrow, as the grateful citizens are set to show respect and love to Bangabandhu with a hope of building a ‘Sonar Bangla’.

The city seems dazzlingly beautiful as buildings-big or small-, government establishments and other structures were illuminated impressing people a lot with beauty of mullti-coloured lights.

Authorities concerned have already decorated city streets and islands with miniature flags and colourful festoons.

Awami League and its associate bodies illuminated their offices with lights of different colours and installed the pictures of Bangabandhu.

During his visit to the capital this evening, this correspondent found that different city streets, offices and important establishments were decorated with lights and various colours, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and its premises were also illuminated with unique display of lights of different hues.

The historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu is being aired through Pixel Mapping from the South Plaza of parliament building.

The Awami League’s symbol ‘Boat’ and the portrait of Bangabandhu are being displayed there through laser show. Besides, Bangabandhu Corner was also set up at southwestern corner of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The nation is set to celebrate the inauguration of Mujib Year as the countdown for opening of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary ends tonight.

The celebrations will begin with fireworks at 8 pm at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital tomorrow, marking Bangabandhu’s birth moment.

The organisers selected Suhrawardy Udyan for the inauguration of the Mujib Year with fireworks, considering the site to be historic as Bangabandhu had delivered his momentous March 7, 1971 speech leading to the Liberation War and eventual independence.

Different socio-cultural and political organisations from grassroots to national levels, ministries and divisions have drawn up programmes to celebrate the birth centenary opening.
