2nd round of Bangabandhu DPL postponed

DHAKA, March 16, 2020 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to
postpone the second round of the matches of ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh
Premier League (DPL).

The country’s cricket apex body said in a press release that the second
round which was slated to be held on March 18 and 19 was postponed due to
unavoidable circumstances.

BCB’s decision came hours after the State minister for youth and sports
Zahid Ahsan Russell gave a directive to all federations of Bangladesh to call
off all the sporting events until March 31.

“The BCB will take further decision on rescheduling and restarting the
league according to the health and safety advisory of the Bangladesh
Government,” the press release stated.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s final leg of Pakistan tour, which involves one-off
ODI and a Test in Karachi in early April was finally called off in light of
growing concerns around the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) and travel
restrictions around the world. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday reached a consensus in this regard,
ending all speculations.

With the rising concern of coronavirus, BCB last week was forced to
postpone a mega concert and a two-match T20I series between a World XI and
Asia XI to mark the 100th birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
