DU prepares hand sanitizer for its teachers, students

DHAKA, March 15, 2020 (BSS) – The students and teachers of Pharmacy
faculty of Dhaka University (DU) have been preparing hand sanitizers for the
university’s students and teachers to tackle coronavirus outbreak.

Led by Dr Md Abdul Muhit of DU Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology
Department, they have already prepared 600 bottles in three days at the
laboratory of Biotechnology Research Centre of DU.

The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman will
inaugurate the distribution process tomorrow at about 11 am at a function
with the presence of Dhaka University Central Students Union’s (Ducsu)
leaders.

In a day, they are producing 200-300 bottles which will be distributed
among the students, teachers and stuff of the university.

Biomedical Research Center and DU Pharmacy Faculty took the initiative
under the supervision of Dean of Pharmacy Faculty Dr SM Abdur Rahman.

“We have prepared the hand sanitizers under our own funding. After being
informed by social media, many people are contributing the project
deliberately. As per their interest, we can take an initiative to make it
another dimension,” said Dr Abdul Muhit.

Production cost of each 100 milliliter bottle of sanitizers at Taka 100
while the market price is nearly Taka 200, he added.

Earlier on Saturday, Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman said he was willing to
cooperate with such initiatives and would like to provide all kinds of
support whatever they need.
