Trooper, 2 militants killed in Indian-controlled Kashmir gunfight

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, June 14, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – A
trooper and two militants were killed Thursday in a fierce ongoing gunfight
in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The gunfight broke out in Panar forest area of Bandipora district, about
65 km north of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled
Kashmir.

“Two militants and one soldier were killed today in a gunfight in
Bandipora,” Indian army spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia told Xinhua. “The gunfight
is underway in the forest area.”

Officials said the search operation in the area was going on since last
Friday following intelligence information about presence of militants.

On Sunday, Indian army killed six militants on LoC in Kupwara district.

A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed
in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989. The gunfight between the two sides
takes place intermittently across the region.
