Media cooperation sought to make MR campaign successful
RANGPUR, March 15, 2020 (BSS) – Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman
Mostafa at a press conference today sought media cooperation in creating
social awareness to make the forthcoming Measles-Rubella Campaign- 2020 a
success in the city.
The RpCC authority organised the event for journalists at its conference
room here with its Chief Executive Officer Ruhul Amin Mian in the chair.
The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) of the Directorate General
of Health Services, World Health Organisation (WHO), GAVI and UNICEF extended
assistance in arranging the event.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Amin Uddin Khan, Associate Professor of
Rangpur Medical College Hospital Dr MA Wahab, Secretary of RpCC Rashedul
Haque and its Chief Health Officer Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz addressed.
Mayor Mostafa said over 3.97-lakh children from 9 months to under 10-
year age group will be immunized with one dose of measles-rubella (MR)
vaccine in two phases of the campaign in the city.
“The immunization of children will be conducted at 287 schools from
March 18 to March 24 at school level and at 15 permanent and 120 community
vaccination centres from March 25 to April 12 at community level,” he said.
Seventy-seven vaccination teams and 231 volunteers will conduct the
campaign from 8 am to 3 pm dally under monitoring of 41 supervisors across
the city.
Dr Taz said students from class one to four of primary level educational
institutions will be immunised with one dose of MR vaccine in the first
phase.
“The same-age group children will get one dose of MR vaccine in the
second phase of the campaign for ensuring immunization of cent percent
targeted children to protect them from various diseases,” he added.
Terming measles as one of the most infectious human diseases, Dr Amin
stressed on enhancing public awareness through mass publicity in the media to
ensure vaccination to cent percent children of the targeted age group.
The City Mayor called upon the journalists for raising public awareness
to make the forthcoming Measles-Rubella Campaign- 2020 a complete success.
