Bangabandhu could translate his dream to others: Momen

DHAKA, March 15, 2020 (BSS)- Foreign Minister Dr Abdul Momen today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman not only founded an independent and sovereign country, also had a capacity to translate his dream of building ‘Sonar Bangla’ (golden Bengal) into reality and transmit it to others too.

“Not only he created an independent country, in addition, he translated the dream of building Golden Bangla to his followers .. It is not easy to translate the dream into reality, and it is also not easy to transmit it to masses. Bangabandhu had the capacity to do this,” he said.

The foreign minister was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled “Bangabandhu’s Unfinished Memoirs: A Review” organized by Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in the capital.

About Bangabandhu’s farsighted vision over diplomacy and international affairs, Momen said the country’s cardinal foreign policy — friendship to all, malice towards none –was established by Bangabandhu. Terming the country’s motto of foreign policy is a reflection of Bangabandhu’s practical understanding and visionary leadership, he said “even today we follow his vision (over foreign policy).”

Referring to the Bangabandhu’s speech in the United Nations, the foreign minister said the founding father of Bangladesh had raised 25 issues in his address to the UN and “those issues, still today, are very relevant,” he added.

The foreign minister said the basic characteristic of Bangabandhu is that he always stood for justice and fairness. “The message of Bangabandhu gave us that you must stand for justice and fairness whatever the issue is,” he said.

Noting that the foreign ministry has published numbers of book on Bangabandhu’s life and vision marking the “Mujib Year”, Momen urged the young generations to read those books to know about principles, ideology, struggle and dream of Father of the nation.

Ambassador M Fazlur Karim presided over the seminar while BIISS Director General Md Emdad Ul Bari delivered the welcome speech.

Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad gave a presentation on “Bangabandhu: An Epic of a Nation’s Struggle for Self-determination” while senior secretary of General Economic Division of Bangladesh Planning Commission talked about “Bangabandhu Global Vision: Peace and Emancipation” at the inaugural session.

Four professors of different universities delivered their presentations on different aspects of life and politics of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the afternoon session moderated by BIISS Director General.
