New ODI captain Tamim focuses on to build team culture

DHAKA, March 14, 2020 (BSS) – Tamim Iqbal, the newly appointed ODI captain of Bangladesh focused on to build the ‘team culture’, considering the fact that the off the field training and work is prelude to the success on the field.

He said while the captain sometimes doesn’t control the on the field performance, it is very easy to form a team culture in a bid to control off the field issues.

As he is given the long term captaincy, Tamim said he will set a team culture to make the team better one.

“I think we can’t control the performance on the ground. But something is in our control which is the team culture. The team culture is actually how professional you are out of the ground and the way you are thinking. I think if we can develop in this sector, it will help our performance on the ground. So it’s my first and foremost task to build a good team culture,” Tamim said here on Saturday.

“I think off the field matter is important. We need to do off the field work like disciplined matter, training matter, hardwork matter properly, it will definitely help us. Discipline actually matters most. We have the reputation of a disciplined team in the world. But we have to think how we can develop more.

We have to reduce the number of mistakes in practice. So overall if you do the off the field activities right, you will do well on the field.”

Tamim however takes the charge of the team at a moment when Bangladesh is going through a bad phase in their cricketing history. Even though they whitewashed Zimbabwe recently in all three formats, a victory against big nations is imperative for them to give the fans a belief that they are on right track. Tamim is completely aware of the fact and emphasized on beating any top team.

“When Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took over the captaincy, we whitewashed Pakistan for the first time and that result sparked our belief that we can beat any nations in the world. In next five years under his captaincy we showed that it’s true that we can beat any nation,” Tamim said.

“At this moment I know we need a victory against a big team. If we can beat a big team, it will give us the confidence and belief that we are on right track. There is an ODI match in Pakistan. If it is held, we will try to beat them because it’s now mandatory for us,” he added.
