Mannan for precise completion of population and housing census

RAJSHAHI, Mar 12, 2020 (BSS)- Planning Minister MA Mannan, MP, today called
for conducting the upcoming population and housing census 2021 accurately so
that it can be the trustworthy and effective tools for marching the nation
forward successfully.

“We want to make the census appropriate, accurate, dependable and flawless
for adopting and implementing only the need-based projects on its statistics
for overall development of the nation,” he added.

He said present government particularly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is
very much honest and positive to implement various welfare oriented projects.

The minister was addressing a view-sharing meeting with the district and
divisional level officials, public representatives and others concerned at
the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office as chief guest.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) under its ‘Population and Housing
Census 2021 project’ organized the meeting titled “Population and Housing
Census 2021″ in collaboration with the Statistics and Information Management
Division of the Ministry of Planning.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Prof. Monsur Rahman, MP, and Secretary to the
Information Management Division Saurendra Nath Chakrabharti addressed the
meeting as special guests with Commissioner of Rajshahi division Humayun
Kabir Khandaker in the chair.

Project Director (PD) Zahidul Hoque Sarder presented a concept paper on the
topics while BBS Director General Tazul Islam delivered welcome speech .

The Minister urged the attending officials and others concerned to extend
their wholehearted cooperation for making the census a total success.

He also said all sorts of necessary steps were already taken to make the
national programme successful. Remuneration of the enumerators has been
enhanced to four times than the previous one.

The Planning Minister warned that the census would be carried out in such
a way so that none would raise questions and population and housing census
will be implemented to take the statistics to the world-class standard .

Other speakers told the meeting that BBS will conduct the sixth Population
Census 2021 from January 2 to 8 next year. The countdown of population and
housing census will start on March 17, marking the birth centenary of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

PD Zahidul Hoque Sarder said the next census would be different from the
previous censuses as it will include for the first time expatriate
Bangladeshis as well as foreigners residing in Bangladesh.

” The next population census in 2021 will portray detailed demographic and
socio-economic scenario in different segments of sex ratio, youths,
adolescents, children, annual growth in population, general fertility rates,
birth and death rates, literacy, income or economic participation, working
and unemployed population and healthcare and nutrition status, ” he also
said.
