Mujib-100 cricket postponed due to coronavirus outbreak

DHAKA, March 11, 2020 (BSS)-The two-match T20 International series between
the Asia XI and World XI, titled ‘Mujib-100 cricket’, to commemorate the
birth centenary of the Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman, was postponed for the time being due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon disclosed
the matter on Wednesday, saying they are working in this regard in line with
the government’s directive.

He said they would reschedule the timing of the matches once the situation
becomes normal.

The BCB had a plan to arrange a concert, graced by famous musician AR
Rahman on March 18, before holding the two T20 matches on March 21 and 22. A
galaxy stars from the cricket world were all set to play the matches.

“We had two alternatives-we can arrange AR Rahman’s concert in small size
but later we decided if we do this, we should do it perfectly. Therefore, we
postponed the concert. We will arrange it later when the situation becomes
normal,” Papon said here today.

“There is a problem with the two matches in March 21 and 22 also. There is
no guarantee that all of the players would come here now and if they come,
there is no guarantee that they could return to their country due to the
prevailing situation. There are limitations in the wake of the situation. So
we postponed the matches for the time being,” he added.

As Bangladesh is scheduled to tour Pakistan in next month for a one-off
ODI and second Test, the BCB president said they would take a decision on the
tour later, after talking to the PCB officials.

‘We’ll talk about it step by step. First we have to observe the situation,”
he added.

The BCB chief further said that they would limit the public gathering
during the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) which is set to begin next week.
