World Kidney Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Mar 11, 2020 (BSS) – The ‘World Kidney Day-2020″ will be observed in the country and elsewhere across the globe tomorrow, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of sound kidneys.

The theme of the day this year is “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere – from Prevention to Detection an Equitable Access to Care”.

The day is going to be marked in Bangladesh amid holding different programmes in a curtailed manner avoiding mass gathering due to outbreak of coronavirus.

The programmes include: rally, discussion and seminar on kidney diseases and its prevention methods.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued separate messages on the occasion, urging the government, non-governmental organisations and all concerned to work together by carrying out awareness campaign for the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases.

The President, in his message, urged all government and private institutions to take necessary steps to build mass awareness to prevent kidney diseases along with taking pragmatic steps to cure the disease.

Quoting the physicians’ advice on the kidney disease, Abdul Hamid said the uncontrolled and unhealthy lifestyle, the misuses of painkiller and antibiotic medicines, the use of adulterated food and obesity are the main reasons for kidney diseases.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government is giving utmost importance to the prevention and treatment of kidney disease and efforts are going on in this regard.

The treatment of kidney diseases is very expensive, she said, adding that, however, many kidney diseases are preventable.

The premier hoped that along with the government organisations, non-governmental bodies will also play important role in boosting public awareness of kidney disease through various programmes.

She wished programmes of the World Kidney Day-2020 a success.

On the occasion, Bangladesh Renal Association (BRA), Kidney Foundation and KAMPS (Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society) will jointly observe the day tomorrow.

A discussion highlighting the theme of the day will be held at Shahid Dr Milon Auditorium at BSMMU at 9 am tomorrow while scheduled rally, flash mob, school programme and mass screening were cancelled due to the prevailing situation.
