DHAKA, March 11, 2020 (BSS) – Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) has
formed a five member probe committee making FSCD Deputy Director (Ambulance)
Nur Hossain the Chairman to identify the exact cause behind the fire that
broke out at a slum in city’s Rupnagar area this morning.

Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) Headquarters Duty Officer Ershad
Hossain confirmed the matter.

The other members of the committee are- Assistant Director (Planning)
Naimul Hasan, Deputy Assistant Director Anwar Hosssain, Senior Station
Officer (Mirpur) Md Anwar Hossain and Warehouse Inspector Md Golam Mostafa,
FSCD sources said.

The fire broke out at the slum at around 9.45 am.

Being informed, a total of 16 units of Fire Service and Civil Defence
rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 12.45 pm after
three-hours of hectic efforts with the help of local people, said Fire
Service’s Central Control Room Duty Officer Md Russel Shikdar.

“We initially suspect that an electric short-circuit or burning cigarette
might have triggered the blaze in the area,” he added.

Rupnagar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Dipak Kumar Das said more
than 100 shanties were gutted in the fire and none was hurt in the incident
so far.
