Indictment hearing against Khaleda, 37 others on June 3
DHAKA, March 11, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today set June 3 to frame
charges against 38 accused including BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in a
case lodged over killing a person by hurling petrol bomb on a passengers bus
in 2015.
Today was fixed for holding hearing on indictment in the case, but
acting Judge Fatema Imruj Konika of Dhaka Sixth Special Tribunal adjourned
the hearing till June 3, allowing a time plea of the defence.
According to the case documents, unidentified miscreants hurled petrol
bombs on a passengers’ bus of ‘Glory Paribahan’ in Matuail area under
Jatrabari Police Station on the night January 23, 2015. A total of 31
passengers suffered burn injuries while one of them died at Burn Unit of
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Sub-Inspector (SI) KM Nuruzzaman of Jatrabari Police Station filed the
case next day after the incident against 50 leaders and activists of BNP and
its associate bodies. Later, the name of Khaleda Zia was added as mastermind
to the first information report of the case.
Police filed charge sheet on May 18, 2015, against 38 including Khaleda
Zia before the court.
