Father-son held with 2,850 yaba tablets at Dhaka Airport

DHAKA, Mar 10, 2020 (BSS) – Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested
two persons from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and seized 2,850 yaba
tablets from their possession on Monday.

The detainees were identified as Md Yunus, 45, and his son Md Rasel, 15.

“Both were passengers of a Novo-Airlines flight which landed in Dhaka from
Cox’s Bazar at around 4:30pm on Monday. Suspecting their movement, the APBn
members challenged and interrogated them. Later, the duo admitted to have the
tablets in their possession,” Alamgir Hossain Shimul, additional
superintendent (ops and media) of APBn told BSS.

They were immediately taken to police custody. The officials searched their
bodies and found the yaba tablets hidden in their rectum, the official added.

According to APBn, the market value of the seized tablets is around 8.55
lakh taka. During interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that a person
named Md Jabed, 45, from Noyapara village of Teknaf told them to deliver the
tablets to an unidentified man in Dhaka.

The arrestees admitted that they were involved in drug smuggling and
received payment for carrying the tablets, said APBn.

A case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act in this regard.

Both of them were sent to the court today after primary interrogation.
