Programmes to celebrate Independence Day in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 9, 2020 (BSS) – The district administration at a
preparatory meeting today chalked out programmes to celebrate the
Independence and National Day-2020 in a befitting manner here on March 26
next.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan presided over the meeting held at his
conference room in the city.

Freedom fighters, leaders of Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and
other parties, heads of different government departments, educational
institutions and law enforcement agencies, civil society members and socio-
cultural activists were present.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Mrs. Shukria Pervin,
Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hossain, Senior District Information Office
Md. Humayun Kobir, former Commander of district unit Command of Bangladesh
Muktijoddha Sangshad Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, Professor Mohammad Shah Alam,
Organising Secretary of district AL Touhidur Rahman Tutul, among others,
addressed.

The celebration will begin with heralding 31 gun salutes at ‘Swadhinota
Smritistambha Arjan’ followed by placing of wreaths there, Central Shaheed
Minar and ‘Shaheed Muktijoddha Smritistambha’ in the city at zero hours on
the day.

High officials, City Mayor, leaders of AL, its associate bodies and
other political parties, freedom fighters, heads of government departments
and educational institutions, business bodies, civil society members,
professionals and commoners will place there wreaths.

Rendering of the National Anthem will be sung at Rangpur Stadium
followed by march pasts of freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, scouts, girls
in scout, fire service and civil defense personnel, jail guards, BNCC,
students and children.

The programmes include hoisting of the national flag atop all
government, semi-government, private and public buildings, educational
institutions and other establishments.

The main streets and roadside islands will be decorated with the
national flag, posters and miniatures and the government, semi-government and
private buildings will be illuminated in the city.

Shooting, drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation,
charity football matches, sports competitions, screening of documentary films
of the War of Liberation, cultural functions and prize distribution
ceremonies will be organised.

The freedom fighters, family members of martyred freedom fighters and
their relatives will be accorded receptions at Town Hall auditorium and
special discussion on the War of Liberation and independence for women be
arranged there.

Special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, pagodas and
churches and improved diets be served to the inmates of all hospitals, jails,
vagabond centers, Shishu Paribar and orphanages.

Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and local
dailies, weeklies, monthlies and online newspapers will publish special
supplements glorifying importance and dignity of the day.

The district administration will arrange the main discussion to be
followed by prize distribution ceremony on the Central Shaheed Minar premises
at night on the day.

The meeting decided to postpone the Book Fair scheduled to be arranged
here from March 17 to March 24 next considering the outbreak of coronavirus
and will follow any further direction from the government regarding
rearrangement of the programmes.
