Fourth women’s mathematics olympiad held at DU

DHAKA, Mar 8, 2020 (BSS) – The fourth edition of Women’s Mathematics
Olympiad was held today on the Dhaka University (DU) campus, marking the
International Women’s Day.

Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the
day-long event, jointly organised by Women’s Mathematics Olympiad committee
and A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation, at A F Mujibur Rahman Ganit Bhaban on the
campus.

Chairman of mathematics department Prof Amal Krishna Halder and Chairman of
Applied Mathematics department Prof Md Shafiqul Islam were also present on
this occasion, with Director of Women’s Mathematics Olympiad Committee Prof
Chandra Nath Podder in the chair.

While addressing the event, DU VC Md Akhtaruzzaman urged the female
students to play pivotal role in bringing changes in the society, raise their
voices against violence and face the evil forces courageously.

Dr Akthtaruzzan also stressed the need for building awareness about women’s
rights to make the society free from various abuses.

“We have to make the celebration of Mujib Year 2020 fruitful through
establishing women’s dignity and rights in the society”, DU VC opined.

After the competition, a presentation titled “Contribution of Women in
Science and Technology”, organised by the female students of DU Mathematics
department, was also held to encourage the young female students towards
mathematics, science and technology.

About 250 under-graduate female students from different public and private
universities participated in the event.
