International Women’s Day being celebrated

DHAKA, March 8, 2020 (BSS) – The International Women’s Day is being
celebrated in the city in a befitting manner today with the time-befitting
theme ‘Projonmo Hok Somotar, Sokol Narir Odhikar.’

To mark the day, various programmes were chalked out in the city while the
inaugural programme of the day started with lightening up candle in the first
hour of the day at Central Shaheed Minar.

Various media and organisations are observing the day undertaking
programmes such as greeting people, holding rallies, human chains,
discussions, presenting gifts and cutting cakes.

On the eve of the day, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina issued separate messages, greeting all women across the world.

With the premier in the chair, a programme was organised at Osmani Sriti
Milonayatan in the city.

Amrai Pari, Paribarik Nirjaton Protirodh Jot, (WE CAN) and Dhaka
University (DU) jointly organised ‘swear-in’ ceremony at 12:01 am today
demanding women-equality.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman also lit candle on the
occasion.

Besides, Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman on Women and Children
Affairs Ministry Meher Afroz Chumki was also present there.

Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP), the mainstream trade union
movement in the country and Industrial Bangladesh Council- Narayanganj
Cluster Committee held a human chain in front of Jatiya Press club on the
occasion.

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society celebrated the International Women’s Day
at its conference room here where Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Governing
Board Member Rehana Ashequr Rahman attended it as the chief guest.
