Jatka conservation week begins April 4

DHAKA, March 8, 2020 (BSS) – Jatka Conservation Week will be observed
across the country on April 4-10 with a view to creating mass awareness about
preserving immature Hilsha or ‘Jatka’ which is significant to boost the
production of the national fish.

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, in a meeting held at the conference
room of the ministry at secretariat here, made a decision to take elaborate
week-long programme on the occasion, said a press release.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim presided over the meeting,
the release added.

The meeting informed that the inaugural programme marking the week will be
held on April 4.

On the first day of the week, special supplements regarding Jatka
conservation will be published and a colourful procession will be brought out
from Matshya Bhaban to Jatiya Press club in the morning.

After the rally, Fisheries and Livestock Minister will hold a press
conference on ‘Jatka Conservation Week’ at Department of Fisheries in the
city.

Apart from this, rallies will be held simultaneously at all 64 districts of
the country with the participation of local fishermen and other people
concerned on the same day.

Other programmes of the week-long programme include screening video clip on
jatka conservation, arranging discussions on radio and television, arranging
hilsa-related workshop and conducting mobile courts to inspect various
wholesale fish markets.

Hilsa-populated five districts- Chattogram, Bhola, Chandpur, Patuakhali and
Pirojpur -will hold discussions with the help of local administration, law
enforces and other authorities concerned during the week.
