Khlaid directs to set up boundary pillars on river banks

DHAKA, Mar 8, 2020 (BSS)-State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today directed the authority concerned to complete the works of setting up boundary pillars, protection of river banks, construction of walkways and jetties on the banks of Buriganga, Turag, Shitalakshya and Balu rivers.

The directive came at a meeting on implementation of Annual Development Programmes (ADP) at conference room of the ministry here, said a press release.

Khalid emphasized on dredging the Karnaphuli River and directed the authority concerned to launch experimental ferry service between Bahadurabad Ghat and Balashi Ghat in Jamalpur district.

The meeting was also informed that 1,000 boundary pillars, six jetties and 3.5 kilometers river bank construction works have already been completed under the projects. Foundation stones of about 4,000 boundary pillars have been laid, it said.

Shipping secretary Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and chiefs of concerned offices and organizations were present at meeting.

The shipping ministry is implementing 49 projects at a cost of Taka 4713 crore 12 lakh in fiscal 2019-20.
