Historic 7 March observed in missions abroad

DHAKA, March 8, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh missions abroad has observed the historic day of 7th March, recalling the epoch-making speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that fired up the Bengali nation to fight and win the independence of Bangladesh in 1971.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C, Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN), Bangladesh embassies in Athens, Paris and Ottawa observed the historic 7th March with patriotic zeal on Saturday, remembering Bangabandhu’s iconic speech, according to messages received here today.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C. observed the day through various programs, including screening a documentary on the 7th March speech at Bangabandhu Auditorium there.

The messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read out in the function. Defence Attach, Brig Gen Moinul Hassan and Minister (Press) Shamim Ahmad read out the messages respectively.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin addressed the programme.

Earlier, Ambassador Ziauddin, accompanied by officials and employees of the embassy, placed wreath at the bust of Bangabandhu in the chancery. A special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and members of his family assassinated on August 15, 1975, and martyrs of the Liberation War.

To mark the day, Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the UN organized a discussion and offered a special prayer, seeking eternal peace of departed souls of Bangabandhu along with his family members who embraced martyrdom on August 15, 1975, Liberation War and Language Movement martyrs and welfare for the country as well as the nation.

Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Rabab Fatima delivered welcome speech at the discussion. In the beginning of the discussion, a documentary on Bangabandhu’s 7 March speech was screened.

Bangladesh embassies in Athens in Greece, Paris in France and Ottawa in Canada also observed the day through various programmes, including organizing discussions, placing wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu, observing solemn silence showing rich tributes to the Farther of the Nation and screening the Historic 7 March speech in the functions.

Leaders and representatives of different social, political, cultural professional organizations and a huge number of expatriate Bangladeshis joined the programmes at their respective missions.
