Sports practice vital for building developed Bangladesh: Secretary

RAJSHAHI, Mar 7, 2020 (BSS) – Secretary to the Ministry of Public
Administration Sheikh Yousuf Harun said there is no alternative to sports
practice for building developed and prosperous Bangladesh.

He said Bangladesh has now become capable of raising its head in the
global arena as both the boys and girls have already shown outstanding
performance in various sports events.

The secretary was addressing the opening ceremony of the 32nd annual
sports competition with participation of the children of government officers
and employees in Rajshahi division here today as chief guest.

Rajshahi Divisional Office of Bangladesh Employees Welfare Board
organized the competition at Rajshahi District Freedom Fighters Memorial
Stadium.

Additional Director General of Bangladesh Employees Welfare Board Abdul
Matin addressed the ceremony as special guest with Commissioner of Rajshahi
division Humayun Kabir Khandaker in the chair.

Chairman of Rajshahi Development Authority Anwar Hossain, Additional
Divisional Commissioners Jakir Hossain, Dr Abdul Mannan and Moinul Islam and
Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque also spoke.

Sheikh Yousuf Harun said sports, physical practice and cultural
activities always play pivotal role towards physical and mental flourishing
of students.

So, he said, it is important to boost sports and cultural activities in
educational institutions.

“Sports and cultural activities can protect the students from drug
addiction and militancy,” the secretary added.

He said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina has attained epoch-making success in education,
health, communication and power sectors. “We have to uphold the successes,”
he asserted.
