Stringent security measures for Bangabandhu’s centenary celebration

DHAKA, March 4, 2020 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said stringent security measures will be taken marking the opening ceremony of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary celebration on March 17.

“Foolproof security measures will be taken for the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu on March 17,” he told journalists after a meeting of the security subcommittee on Bangabandhu’s birth centenary at Home Ministry conference room here.

Kamal said the law enforcement agencies will ensure security of state guests, diplomats and other invitees who will come from different countries, adding, “They (security personnel) will also ensure security to guests, who will join different events during the celebration of birth centenary of Bangabandhu.”

Replying to a question, he said adequate security personnel will be deployed on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebration, also the National Children’s Day, on March 17.

Responding to another question, the minister said there is no security threat centering the celebration of birth centenary of Bangabandhu, adding, “We did not receive any such information.”

“Strict security measures will be taken to avert any untoward incident during the celebration. Social media rumours will also be monitored,” he said.

Kamal urged all educational institutions to end programmes on the National Children’s Day marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu by 11am.

The minister said a letter would be sent to the Education Ministry in this regard.

He said people are waiting for the celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary on March 17 with enthusiasm.

The minister said the VIP gate of Tejgaon old airport will be closed at 3:15pm when the opening ceremony will begin but the public gate will remain open for all.
