Regional SME fair ends in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, March 4, 2020 (BSS) – An eight-day long ‘Regional SME Products
Fair- 2020’ ended here yesterday evening with the call of promoting local SME
sector, enhancing production of quality SME products, exhibition and
introduction of SME goods for expanding business, trade and commerce.

In the fair, a spectrum of locally produced SME goods including leather
products, jute-made products, handicrafts, processed agricultural products,
electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other
products were exhibited in around 70 stalls.

SME Foundation and district administration jointly organised the fair on
Rajshahi Collectorate playground in association with Bangladesh Small and
Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Chamber of Commerce and Industry and
National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh (NASIB).

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Humayun Kabir Khandaker addressed the
closing ceremony as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque in
the chair.

Deputy Inspector General of Police AKM Hafiz Akter, Superintendent of
Police Muhammad Shahidullah, BSCIC Regional Director Tamanna Rahman and
President of Bangladesh Silk Industries Owners Association Liakat Ali spoke
as special guests.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shariful Haque also addressed the
session, illustrating salient feature of the fair. The chief guest said
large-scale promotion of SMEs can be an effective means of more income
generation and poverty alleviation.

Both public and private banks should disburse loan among SME
entrepreneurs, particularly women, to promote SME entrepreneurship in
Rajshahi region, he said.

Humayun Kabir said various business fields, including software, agro-
processing and its business, agriculture plantation, fisheries, poultry,
tissue culture, leather goods, health services and education services, should
be selected for investment.

Besides, the entrepreneurs should come forward to establish small and
medium industries in the region to create employment opportunities for
regional development.

He, however, said the present government under the dynamic leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted various need-based measures for
taking forward the SME sector.

The country has already achieved tremendous uplift in every sector with
the participation of men and women on its way to become a middle income
nation soon.
