High yielding BARI kulboroi gains popularity in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, March 3, 2020 (BSS) – Growers in Jamalpur district are cultivating two high yielding varieties of Kulboroi developed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) to increase fruit production.

In order to expansion of fruit cultivation commercially, a field day on BARI KuI-1 and BARI Kul-2 was held at Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) in the district this afternoon.

Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) in Jamalpur and
Strengthening of Horticulture Crops Research And Expansion of Technology of
Horticulture Crops In Char Areas Project jointly arranged the field day. A
total of 100 farmers took part in the field day.

Project Director of Strengthening of Horticulture Crops Research and
Expansion of Technology of Horticulture Crops in Char Areas Project Dr Md Abu
Taher Masud attended the field day while chief scientific officer of RARS,
Jamalpur, Dr Md Tariqul Islam presided over it.

Speakers said the two high yielding varieties of Kulboroi will
supplement the efforts of the government for increasing fruit production in
the country.

The BARI sources said BARI Kul-1 and BARI Kul-2 are high yielding
varieties and its per hectare yield is 10 tonnes to 15 tonnes and 18 tonnes
to 20 tonnes respectively.

They said BARI kul already have got popularity among people for rich
nutritional values with good test.

Farmers in the district Jamalpur district are showing interest to
cultivate BARI developed kulboroi commercially as two varieties of crop are
more profitable than other crops.
