‘World Wildlife Conservation Day’ observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, March 3, 2020 (BSS)- Environmentalists and experts at a post-
rally discussion here today unequivocally called for proper conservation of
wildlife for maintaining environmental balance.

They also stressed the need for more public awareness about the importance
of the wildlife as its existence is very important for protecting
biodiversity.

Department of Wildlife and Nature Conservation, Department of Social
Forestry and DC Office organised the discussion at the seminar hall of Shahid
AHM Kamruzzaman Central Park in the city to mark the World Wildlife Day-2020.

Some voluntary organisations including Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation
Federation (BBCF), Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS), Better Nature and
Society and Save the Nature and Life supported the programme.

“Sustaining All Life on Earth” was the main theme of the day.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Muhammad Kamruzzaman
addressed the discussion as the chief guest while BLS General Secretary Dr
Hemayetul Islam, Veterinary Surgeon of Rajshahi City Corporation Dr Farad
Hossain and Chairman of Save the Nature and Life Society Mizanur Rahman spoke
as special guests with Divisional Forest Officer Zillur Rahman in the chair.

Professor Bidhan Chandra Das from the Department of Zoology and Prof Jalal
Uddin Sarder from the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in
Rajshahi University highlighted the importance of protecting wildlife in
their multimedia presentations.

Prof Bidhan Das opined that the wildlife population has been gradually
declining due to various reasons including shrinking of their habitat. That
is why time-fitting measures should be adopted.

“Wildlife sanctuary is very important for protecting the natural world,” he
said, adding that ensuring security to the wildlife has become an urgent
need.

All government, non-government and research organisations concerned should
come forward and work together to protect the existing wildlife and nature
from further degradation, he added.
