Public representatives urged to prevent militancy

RANGPUR, March 3, 2020 (BSS)- The grassroot-level public representatives
should play appropriate role in creating awareness to prevent violent
terrorism, militancy and drugs from the society.

High-ranking police officials expressed the views today at a seminar titled
‘Role of public representatives in preventing violent terrorism’ held at
Police Lines School and College auditorium in the city.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Biplob Kumar Sarkar presided over the seminar
sponsored by ‘Establishment of counter terrorism and international crime
prevention center of Bangladesh Police’ project.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police
Devdas Bhattacharya addressed the seminar as the chief guest.

Additional DIG for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police TM Mozahedul Islam,
Additional SPs Abu Maruf Hossain and Fazle Elahi addressed as special guests.

The participating Union Parishad chairmen and members from across the
district forwarded suggestions and expressed firm commitment to play their
due role in preventing violent terrorism, militancy and drugs.

The chief guest said none becomes a militant overnight, but undergoes a
long process with change in behaviour and daily activities in the family,
educational institutions and society to slowly become a violent person.

“The family members and local society should not overlook the detected
chronological changes of anyone in behaviour at the preliminary stage to
bring the person back to normal life from becoming a violent terrorist or
militant,” he said.

Devdas Bhattacharya said Union Parishad chairmen and members, religious
leaders, teachers and local community leaders should have to play an
important role in this regard so that none becomes a terrorist or militant.

“All social forces should work inclusively to create awareness to prevent
violent terrorism and militancy for ensuring sustainable peace and security
for achieving sustainable development goals by 2030 to build a developed
Bangladesh by 2041,” he added.

He said common people never patronize militancy in the country which
achieved independence through sacrificing lives of its three million citizens
and modesty of two hundred thousand mothers and daughters.
