Coronavirus has no bearing on temperature: IEDCR

DHAKA, Mar 2, 2020 (BSS) – Underscoring the need for changing the people’s lifestyle along with public awareness for preventing the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora today said the epidemic virus has no bearing on temperature levels.

“We should not sit idle thinking that the number of epidemic Coronavirus affected people will reduce in the summer season (along with rise of temperature), because the virus has no relation with the mercury level,” she told a regular press briefing at the IEDCR in the city.

Noting that people were infected with the virus in the countries with high temperature, she said the Coronavirus, however, can’t survive at 70 degree Celsius, which does not prevail in any country.

As the outbreak is deteriorating gradually all over the world, the IEDCR director said the government is emphasizing on preventing the epidemic virus as there is no hope of being cured even after taking vaccines.

Taking the situation of Kerala State of India into consideration, additional cautionary measures have been taken at all land ports, Meerjady said, adding along with thermal scanners, hand-operated scanners have also been given for detecting the virus at the airports.

Informing that two Bangladeshis out of five, who were infected with the COVID-19 in Singapore, returned home after recovering from the illness, she said physical condition of rest of the three remains unchanged.

Mentioning that none was detected with Coronavirus in Bangladesh, Meerjady said, “We have examined the samples of 93 people. None was, whoever, detected with the virus”.

New patients were detected with the COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Island, Monaco and Qatar, she said, adding the people were detected with the virus in 58 countries across the world, including the five new countries.
