Creating voters’ awareness for strengthening democracy stressed

RANGPUR, Mar 02, 2020 (BSS) – Officials at a post-rally discussion here
today stressed on creating awareness among voters about voting rights has
become crucial to further strengthening the country’s democratic process.

They opined this at the discussion arranged by Rangpur Regional Office of
the Election Commission with the assistance of the Divisional Commissioner’s
Office in observance of the National Voters’ Day 2 March 2020 in the city.

Earlier, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain
inaugurated observance of the day by releasing festoon and balloons on
Rangpur Regional Office of the Election Commission premises.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya,
Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud and Deputy
Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan were present on the occasion.

Later, he led a huge colourful rally on the city streets with
participation of divisional and district level officials, students, youths,
representatives of NGOs, socio-cultural, professional and human rights
organisations organisations, civil society members.

Additional Divisional Commissioner Md. Zakir Hossain attended the post-
rally discussion held at Town Hall auditorium as the chief guest with Rangpur
Regional Election Officer Sarker Md. Ashraful Alam in the chair.

Senior District Election Officer Delwar Hossain delivered a welcome speech
narrating the day and necessity of creating awareness about voting rights of
the voters.

Additional Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police TM Mozahidul
Islam, Deputy Police Commissioner of RpMP Abu Sufian and Additional Deputy
Commissioner Sued Enamul Kabir addressed as special guests.

The chief guest called upon urged the officials concerned and civil society
members for creating social awareness and inspiring the voters to cast their
votes to strengthening the democracy process.

Other speakers put emphasis on inspiring the voters exercise their voting
rights properly to infuse democratic culture in them for nurturing and
strengthening democracy to give democracy an institutional shape.
