CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Mar 1, 2020 (BSS) – Mango growers are expecting a bumper output of this popular juicy fruit as a total of 33,035 hectares of land have been brought under mango cultivation in Chapainawabganj district this year.
“The mango trees have already bloomed and the growers are expecting a bumper yield if the weather goes well in the coming days,” an official of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said.
He said there are 3,95,025 mango trees on 5,125 hectares of land in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila, 14,14,125 trees on 18,855 hectares of land in Shibganj upazila, 3,40,125 trees on 4,175 hectares of land in Gomostapur upazila, 1,42,655 trees on 1,800 hectares of land in Nachole upazila and 2,47,700 trees on 3,080 hectares in Bholahat upazila.
The last year, he said, a total of 2,39,000 metric tons of mangoes was produced in the district.
Despite trees bloom flowers less this year, growers are expecting good production of mango, the most delicious summer fruit and the main cash crop of Chapainawabganj, due to favorable atmosphere.
Some 250 mango varieties are grown in the district. Of them, 40 percent Fazli, 30 percent Ashina, 20 percent Gopalbhog, besides Langra, Khirshapat and other good varieties. The rest are lower varieties of guti mangoes, farmers and officials said.
