National Insurance Day tomorrow
DHAKA, Feb 29, 2020 (BSS) – The National Insurance Day will be celebrated in Bangladesh tomorrow (March 1) for the first time in the country’s history.
The day will be observed with the theme “Bima diboshe shopoth kori, unnoto desh gori” translated in English as “We take oath on the insurance day, to build a developed country.”
Marking the day, Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority of Bangladesh (IDRA), Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) and Bangladesh Insurance Forum have jointly chalked out a wide-range of day-long programmes including holding rallies, insurance fairs and discussion meetings for ensuring development of this sector as well as creating much more awareness among people.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate an event tomorrow at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka marking the day. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will preside over the event, which will begin at 10am.
On March 1 in 1960, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started working at the then Alpha Insurance Company. Therefore, the government has decided to celebrate this day as the National Insurance Day every year.
The decision in this regard was made at a cabinet meeting on January 15 this year.
The day will be observed in all the districts and upazilas across the country.
A one-day insurance fair will be held at the BICC on the National Insurance Day. The fair will have 79 stalls. Among those, 33 stalls will belong to life insurance companies while the rest of 46 to non-life insurance companies.
