Boro cultivation target exceeded in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, Feb 29, 2020 (BSS)- Cultivation of Boro paddy is progressing fast in all the ten upazilas of the district, which is popularly known as “grain vowel” of the country during the current Boro season.

An official source here said, meanwhile the target of Boro paddy cultivation of the district has exceeded by the cultivators since the weather condition has remained favorable and the government has ensured proper supply of improved quality seeds, fertilizers, irrigation machineries, electricity and other agricultural equipments at the door-steps of the farmers.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Netrakona has designed a target to bring a total of 1, 83,870 hectors of land under Boro paddy cultivation during the current season with a plan to produce 7.45 lakhs metric tons of clean Boro rice.

Of the total targeted land, 23,000 hectors of land would be brought under hybrid variety of the Boro paddy, 1,60,520 hectors of land under high yielding variety of the paddy and 350 hectors of land under local variety of the paddy.

Now Boro cultivators have been able to cultivate Boro paddy on 1,84,530 hectors of land in the district exceeding this year’s Boro cultivation target.

Of the cultivated land, 20,935 hectors of land have been brought under hybrid variety of the paddy, 1, 63,250 hectors of land under high yielding variety of the paddy and 345 hectors of land under local variety of the paddy.

Deputy Director of the DAE Netrakona Habibur Rahman told BSS here that the Boro cultivators have brought additional 660 hectors of land under the Boro cultivation exceeding the Boro cultivation target as the climate condition has remained favorable and the government has undertaken many farmers-friendly programs for making the Boro cultivation program successful.

Referring the government’s farmers-friendly programs, he said, different state-run agencies including BADC, BCIC and PDB have been working relentlessly for ensuring supplying of fertilizers, irrigation machineries, electricity and other Agri-inputs to the farmers following the directives of the government.

Besides, different state-run Banks including Bangladesh Krishi bank have disbursed Boro crops loans among the Boro cultivators to make them capable to run their Boro farming without any financial problem, the deputy director Rahman added.
