DHAKA, Feb 27, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said the government is considering resuming the ferry service on Aricha-Nagarbari route aiming to ease pressure on Bangabandhu Bridge.

The state minister said this while speaking at a civic rally on the Harinathpur SESDP Model High School ground to inaugurate Nagarbari River Port with modern facilities at Nagarbari in Pabna district.

Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Commodore Golam Sadeq presided over the rally.

The function was addressed, among others, by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kabir Mahmud, Additional Police Super Goutam Kumar Biswas, Mayor of Bera Municipality Abdul Baten, Atgharia Upazila Parishad Chairman Tanvir Islam and Sujanagar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shinuzzman Shain.

Speaking as the chief guest, Khalid said the government has also planned to launch ferry service on Aricha-Rajbari Naradoh route and turn Bagabari River port into a modern one.

He said except the Awami League government, no government procured any dredger in the past. But, he said, 200 dredgers were collected under the government and private initiatives in the last 10 years.
