New policy for controlling quality of gold, diamond: Humayun

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2020 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today said the government will formulate a policy for controlling the quality of gold and diamond.

“The policy will be formed to ensure standard ornaments for consumers. For formulating the policy, a committee will be formed, led by an additional secretary,” he said while meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Jewelers Samity at the Industries Ministry in the city, said a press release.

President of the Bangladesh Jewelers Samity Enamul Haque Khan, General Secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwal and senior officials of the Industries Ministry, among others, were present.

Humayun said the government is emphasising on creating employment opportunities for developing the country’s domestic industry.

“The government will provide all sorts of policy support for developing the country’s jewelry industry. We will increase the capacity of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) for jewelry hallmarking,” he added.
