3 jailed for 15-year each for trading drugs

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 25, 2020 (BSS) – A Chattogram court today sentenced three persons to 15 years rigorous imprisonment each for trading contraband drugs.

Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Asfakur Rahman awarded Ali Ahmed, 56 and Hamidullah, 34, both hailed from Patiya upazila of the district and Mohammad Mohiuddin, 39, hailed from Kawkhali upazila of Rangamati
district to 15 years imprisonment each for trading Yaba tablets.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, they will have to
serve six-month more in the jail.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, that a team of the Rapid
Action Battalion (RAB), acting on a tip-off, detained the trio with 28 lakh
pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from the estuary of Karnaphuli river on
January 17, in 2016.

Mohsin Kabir, an official of the RAB, filed a case against the alleged drug
traders with Patenga thana on the same day.

Police submitted chargesheet against them on May 13 in 2016 while the
court framed charges on September 6 in the same year.

After examining a total of nine prosecution witnesses, the court passed
the verdict in presence of all convicts.
