Welfare of climate induced people stressed

RAJSHAHI, Feb 25, 2020 (BSS)- Social watchdogs and development activists in a participatory meeting here today unequivocally called for safeguarding the marginal and other rootless populations for achieving Sustainable Development
Goals (SGD).

They observed that the present government has relentlessly been working to
attain the SDG and emphasis should be given on proper and adequate
rehabilitation of the vulnerable population induced by the adverse impact of
climate change.

All government, non-government organizations and other stakeholders should
come forward and work together to this end.

Climate Bridge Fund Secretariat hosted the meeting titled “NGO’s Briefing:
Call for Concept Note/Proposal” at Midas Convention Centre in the city with
financial support from German Development Bank.

The significant aims and objectives of Climate Bridge Fund were prominently
came up in the discussion.

Brac Divisional Manager Anupam Sengupta and its Regional Manager Farjana
Parveen addressed the meeting as focal persons while Operation Manager Saif
Monjur Al Islam moderated the discussion.

They urged the local NGOs to submit project proposals for te wellbeing of
the climate induced population in the city.

Anupam Sengupta said climate change is becoming a threat to the urban
environment and development and livelihood and urban poverty is highly linked
with rural disaster risks.

Executive Director of Sachetan Hasinul Islam, Editor of the Daily Sonar
Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, Joint Director of Center for Communication and
Development Shahana Parveen, General Secretary of Bangladesh Livestock
Society Dr Hemayetul Islam, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Coordinator
of Light House Consortium Subrata Kumar Paul and NGO Supervision Officer of
Climate Bridge Fund Jamil Akter took part in the open discussion.
