Tayyeb terms hockey stadium as tested venue

DHAKA, Feb 24, 2020 (BSS) – Olympic Solidarity Commission member and Asian
Hockey Federation (AHF) chief executive Tayyeb Ikram today termed the Moulana
Bhasani National Hockey Stadium as a tested venue to host the international
tournament.

“Number of international tournaments have been hosted at Moulana Bhasani
National Hockey Stadium earlier so it’s a tested venue … the upcoming
tournaments will be more attractive if some preparation matches are arranged
there before the Bangabandhu Junior Asia Cup Hockey, he said, adding that the
matter has been already discussed with the hockey federation officials,” said
Tayyeb after the hockey stadium visit today ahead of the Bangabandhu men’s
Junior Asia Cup and Junior World Cup qualifiers this year.

Tayyeb visited VIP stand, media box, official turf and dressing room of the
stadium.

He also held a meeting with Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) acting
general secretary Mohammad Yousuf, BHF joint secretary Kamrul Islam Kismot,
BHF treasurer Hazi Mohammad Humayun, BHF excutive members Bodrul Islam Dipu,
Safayet Hossain Dalim, Rafiqul Islam Kamal and Johirul Islam Mitul after the
visit.

Earlier, on Sunday last, the BHF signed an agreement with AHF to stage the
Junior Asia Cup in June while also unveiled the logo of the event, which has
been named Bangabandhu Al Arafa Islami Bank Junior Asia Cup.

The June 4-12 tournament, also a qualifying tournament for Junior World
Cup, will feature ten teams — India, Japan, Pakistan, South Korea, China,
Libya, Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, Oman and host Bangladesh. The tournament
will be held on occasion of birth centenary of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The top four teams of the Asia Cup will advance to the Junior World Cup.
