Bourses extend losing streak

DHAKA, Feb 24, 2020 (BSS) – Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange
(DSE) closed today extending losing streak as cautious investors continued
their sell-off to bag quick gain.

The broad index, DSEX closed at 4650.89 points on Monday with a loss of
48.00 points or 1.02 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah
index, DSES also went down by 20.54 points and 12.42 points to settle at
1571.21 points and 1073.57 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 149,307 trades were executed
in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 208.03 million
securities.

Market turnover, another crucial indicator, stood at Taka 6.0 billion,
declined further by 10 percent over previous day’s mark of Taka 6.68 billion.

Loser took a strong lead over gainers as out of 355 issues traded, 103
securities gained price while 201 declined and 51 remained unchanged.

The top 10 gainers were VFS Thread Dying, Golden Harvest, Quashem
Industries, Central Pharma, Silva Pharma, Pacific Denim, Beacon Pharma, Silco
Pharma, Alif Industries and Metro Spinning.

VFS Thread Dying topped the turnover chart followed by Grameenphone, Orion
Pharma, Confidence Cement, SK Trims, BSRM Limited, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh,
Golden Harvest, Silva Pharma and Quashem Industries.

The top 10 losers were Northern Insurance, Grameenphone, Hakkani Pulp,
Janata Insurance, Legacy Footwear, MI Cement, Tung Hai Kniting, Khulna
Printing, Purabi General Insurance and GQ Ball pen.

On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also
closed at red extending the losing trend of previous day.

CSCX and CASPI declined by 70.20 points and 116.10 points to stand at
8656.18 points and 14263.99 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 9,827,259 shares and mutual fund of 244 companies were
traded, of which 78 issues advanced while 134 declined and 32 issues remained
unchanged.
